376 ATT Mobility Workers in Puerto Rico join CWA

376 former Centennial Wireless Retail Unit employees are now represented by CWA since November 11, 2010 and they join 186 Network Department and 171 call center employees who also organized during this year following AT&T Mobility acquisition of Centennial Communications Corp. on November 2009.

The former Centennial Sales employees work in over 20 locations across the island.

Local 3010 President Rafael Castro-Torres credited Local 3010's organizer Javier Sepulveda and volunteer stewards Melvin Nazario, Rolando Hernandez and Elix Morales for building strong support for the union, as well as the support from District 3 Staff Jorge Rodriguez.

"This victory solidifies Local 3010's position as the leading Union on the Communications Industry in Puerto Rico. I see Organizing as a duty of all Local Presidents. It is our duty to grow the Union and create a stronger movement. We have clear plans and targets for 2012 and will continue on this organizing trend. With the support from CWA, both District and International, and a great team led by Javier, we will certainly do so." Castro-Torres said.

"An essential aspect for this success was the one-on-one contact with the Retail workers and listening to their concerns and educating employees on how a collective bargained agreement with the employer could solve many of their issues." Sepúlveda said.
