AT&T Puerto Rico Mobility Bargaining January 31, 2011 - Opening Remarks

We, the Bargaining Committee, are proud to represent the CWA members in the AT&T Puerto Rico Mobility Contract.  We are committed to reach an agreement that is just for our members and fair for AT&T Mobility.

The CWA Bargaining Committee stands ready to negotiate a contract that meets legitimate needs of the Company while at the same time providing for the needs and aspirations of the members we represent.

I feel confident we can reach a settlement that will achieve satisfaction for both parties.

AT&T Mobility has been very successful in Puerto Rico as well as in the States. Randall Stevens just announced AT&T’s 4th qtr results saying “in the quarter, Mobility revenue grew 27%, now making up an annualized revenue stream of close to $20 billion, nearly triple from three years ago”. The corporate parent, AT&T, knows the success of the company is tied to the success of the wireless side and we want a share of that success. There is no reason for any concessionary proposals from the company.

The Union does not propose significant changes in the existing contract; however, we do expect a substantial wage increase and improvement in language that has not met the needs of the membership.
