CWA Bargaining with the City of Jacksonville Bargaining report #1

CWA Bargaining with the City of Jacksonville

Bargaining report #1

After several months of delay, CWA is now back in bargaining sessions with the City of Jacksonville to finalize a contract for its members. The CWA City employees have been without a contract for several years. Although this may seem negative, City workers of the CWA Bargaining Unit did not suffer salary cuts while other City employees represented by other unions took a 2% cut in pay.

Earlier this year CWA and other Unions representing City workers entered negotiations to increase City workers pay since the City wanted to get rid of the employee’s defined pension plan. Initially, the City wanted to only give employees 9 % over the next three years. However, the Unions banded together to increase that to 14%. Also, the defined pension plan is still in place for current employees. The new City’s pension plan is a 401K for new employees hired after October 1, 2017. City employees saw their first cost of living increase in October. Once the City got their pension deal, they halted further negotiations to finalize new contracts. However, we are now back meeting with the City again.

CWA has already met with the City twice; on October 25th and November 9th. Our next scheduled negotiation meeting is December 5th. We need all members in the bargaining unit to voice their concerns and demand a fair contract. We need to hear from you! The bargaining team needs your support. Sign up a Non-member.
