CWA District 3 Woman of the Year - Esther Pond, Vice President CWA Local 3806
At our District 3 meeting held in Myrtle Beach this year we honored the first “District 3 Woman of the Year”. We put the call out to our Local Presidents last year requesting nominees. The Women’s Committee was pleased with the great resumes sent in. We were able to keep the winner a secret until she was announced at the meeting and everyone enjoyed the excitement.
Choosing from the nominees was truly difficult, as each nominee could have been “Woman of the Year”. We chose impartial judges to make the difficult choice. Our thanks to John Quinn, District 3 Counsel; Don LaRotonda, Assistant to the Vice President and Booker Lester, Administrative Director. They each voted secretly and gave their votes to John who tabulated the votes and contacted the winning local. The Women’s Committee did not know the winner until Karen Murphy, Georgia Staff Representative announced it from the Podium.
Esther Pond, Vice President CWA Local 3806 was announced “District 3 Woman of the Year” for 2012. Esther was presented with flowers and a gift card by Vice President Dennis, our first female Elected Vice President. As you read the attached nominations submitted for the nominees you will see why they are all outstanding women, of great character and accomplishment.
We look forward to “2013” and will be requesting nominations later this year. We also encourage locals to form a Women’s Committee if you have not already done so.
In Unity,
Betty Witte
