VP Honeycutt attends Human Rights Meeting in Montgomery
CWA Louisiana Legislative Political Action Team wins in 2023 Legislative Session
In a significant stride toward safeguarding the rights and well-being of CWA members, CWA District 3 Vice President, Richard Honeycutt, attended a bill signing event in Louisiana. The event, held by the Honorable Governor John Bel Edwards, signed HB441 into law and spoke highly of the dedicated efforts led by the Louisiana Legislative Political Action Team (CWA LA LPAT), led by State LPAT Coordinator Matt Wood.
The legislation, HB441 sponsored by State Representative Marcus Bryant. This bill, known as the Utility Worker Protection Bill, aimed to enhance the safety and security of utility workers who often face challenging conditions while providing utility services. The bill carries profound implications, including penalties equal to those imposed for an assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm. This statute underscores the gravity of the challenges faced by CWA members and acknowledges the vital role they play in maintaining essential services for the community.
At the heart of the initiative is the commitment to ensuring that CWA members are afforded the same level of protection and respect as law enforcement officers. The bill recognizes the inherent risks associated with their work and seeks to deter any potential harm by imposing stringent penalties for offenses committed against CWA members and other professionals.
During the bill signing event, VP Honeycutt spoke passionately about the importance of this legislative victory and its positive impact on the lives of CWA members.
