Joint YP Holding and Print Media Bargaining Update - September 23, 2015
Both YP and PM bargaining are in recess this week and will resume on September 28th.
The company has presented many retrogressive proposals at both tables. They have proposed to increase hours from 37 1/2 to 40, change the overtime provisions to after 40 hours per week, eliminate double-time, eliminate many of the penalties associated with changing schedules and off days and restricting the number of paid waiting periods prior to STD. They have also proposed to eliminate much of our employment security language and proposed to do layoffs by productivity and maxing the termination allowance at 52 weeks.
We have spent many hours discussing the issues as well as pouring over voluminous data the team has requested. Before the last recess we presented a package proposal to the company in an effort to move things along. Hopefully when we meet next week the company will be prepared to move on some of our issues.
One of the largest holdups in YP is that the company is still not prepared to present a compensation plan. They are now telling us that they have a framework for a plan but want to trial it in a smaller area before rolling it out in other areas. My guess is they will trial it either in Connecticut or California before bringing it to our table. (Connecticut has been bargaining since February)
We are also discussing the new hire notification issues at the table.
I realize that this is frustrating for you and your members but your team is working hard under difficult circumstances to get the best contract we can for our members.
