Farewell to the E34 Community Outreach and Year-Round Mobilization SIF
The E34 team has remained busy this quarter doing amazing things in our communities. It saddens us that this program has reached its completion.
Many Locals have participated in this program and have successfully engaged their memberships in community actions across the District. We would like to thank you for your involvement and we would like to remind you to continue to carry the torch throughout your communities. The purpose of our program was to engage our membership in community actions that would magically create greater participation in Local activities and work to build fundamental relationships with need based community programs across our District. This fosters year round mobilization as we realize that mobilization is not sustainable if we only do it at bargaining time, it has to be 24/7/365 all the time and continuous. What better way to do that, than by actively engaging in our communities where we live and work?
As we look back at this past quarter, it is important to recognize the benefits of being active not only in our locals but in our communities as well. The relationships we build are fundamental and foundational. When we support our communities (not just by writing a check, but by volunteering our time in person), our communities will support us when we need them; that's what building the village is all about!
We will start with April, Autism Awareness Month and the beginning of the Hands Off Our Contracts demonstrations/protests.
Local 3905 participated in an Autism Walk:
Local 3519 created an inclusive space within their mobility call center to educate members and allow them to write the name of a loved one with Autism on a puzzle piece to add to an Autism Tree.
April was also the beginning of the Hands off Our Contract demontstrations and protests. These protests have been happening every Saturday since. The beautiful thing about this protest is that the sheer amount of diverse groups that are coming together for a common thread …this is what this entire program is all about. Local 3371 participated in this protest.
May was Mental Health Awareness Month, § We focused on mental health for kids, veterans, adults, etc. Here Local 3212 focused on the mental health of children with a family fun event:
Local 3509 focused on the veterans. Studies show that veterans suffering from PTSD when socializing over board games, community events, etc show major improvements. This Local hosted a game night that is soon to become a regular and recurring activity.
June is Pride Month and Juneteenth Celebrations
Local 3406, Lafayette, LA celebrated Juneteenth and here are a few photos below:
Again, on behalf of the entire E34 Team, we thank you for all of your support and we urge you to continue to carry the torch, do not let this momentum die; BUILD THE VILLAGE!!
