Stand Strong with Mesa Flight Attendants

Sisters and Brothers: We are in a tough contract fight with a brutal management at Mesa Airlines. Approximately 1000 Flight Attendants with 70% turnover each year. They have bases in Phoenix, Washington Dulles, Houston and Dallas - doing flying for American and United. The next bargaining session begins April 5th and the strike vote closes March 29th. Our Bridge the Gap campaign will never succeed if we don't take on these bottom-feeders at Mesa.

The Mesa contract is a product of bankruptcy, and after five years in negotiations during a time of record profits for the industry Mesa management still refuses to negotiate a new agreement. Mesa Flight Attendants are on average 20% behind the pay of their regional counterparts doing flying for United and American. They only get FAA minimum rest and can work maximum duty days. They are not paid for hours worked beyond their schedule. They do not have pay guarantees, trip/duty rigs or minimums. And healthcare costs are extraordinarily high for below average coverage. Many have to make choices between paying rent and affording food. This is wrong for any worker in America, let alone for over 1000 of aviation's first responders working at Mesa. They keep passengers safe and present the face of Mesa, American and United.

Enough is enough. Mesa Flight Attendants are taking a strike vote. Let them know we have their back. We stand together to take on this brutal management and to to get a fair contract at Mesa!

Can you help us spread the word and ask for union members to sign up as public supporters?

I released this support video yesterday:

And the Houston Chronicle did a great feature piece on the front page of the business section this week:

Mesa Flight Attendants are prohibited from picketing. So we will have to do it for them. We are in the process of determining a date for a day of action. Will keep you updated.

I will address this issue as part of my testimony before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday as part of my testimony on the state of the airline industry.

Thank you for your support.

In Solidarity,
